The sheep shed will soon be full of action but before the first lambs are born this year, we need to prepare the area for them.

Today we completed a number of tasks; some of them are daily jobs like replacing water and cleaning out the sheep pens, we have been putting up an electric fence to protect lambs from any foxes wandering around. They’re all important jobs so everything is ready for the lambing live event which will begin soon - the Shetland sheep mothers to be are heavily pregnant and the first lambs are expected within weeks. You can visit the lambing shed from the 5th of April to see some charming lambs up close. You can find out more about the event by clicking here.

There are a number of great crested grebe pairs, the colours of the birds looked striking in the choppy dark water with sunlight trying to reach through this morning, the ginger and black head contrast with the red eyes and pale front of the great crested grebe. You can see them from the Saltholme pools hide and over the weekend the pintail, glossy ibis and pink footed geese have been sighted.
