Today the estate team have been working in the walled garden which is close to the visitors centre. The day was planned for us to go and de weed the paths around the garden which then made it possible to create a new surface for the paths that have started to wear down. We have been working throughout the day to get a new layer on the paths but there is still work to be done on the paths.

With all the work going on the bees and flies have been flying around us to get to every possible flower, both the flowers and humans are taking the chance to enjoy the garden in the better than usual sunshine that we are getting, the warm day has given us a chance to work alongside the full and colourful plants that have been managed by the volunteers of which – peter Langham who often blogs about the nature in the garden.

The baby birds increase the amount of current birds on the reserve, they all gather together during summer to live and feed around Saltholme. The birds that you can see include gold finch, green finch, tree Sparrows and sand martins that are nesting right now.

Other birds, including black tailed godwits and sedge warblers have been seen today. A few weeks ago I took photos of the Sandwich terns; I didn’t manage to find the photos on my memory card, i've only found the photos now so just below is a photo I took of the sandwich terns about three weeks ago –

You get a chance to see Saltholme looking abundant with colour and greenery at the moment. Its well worth a visit!
