Saltholme is one of the youngest of the RSPB reserves; the bird reserve is a place for new homes for all wildlife.

To make sure that conservation is working for birds across the country then the reserves must be rich in all wildlife for type of habitat, as said on the previous blog post the reserve is part of the new national slogan – giving nature a home. By enhancing the reserve as much as possible in all aspects of nature it gives the wildlifeon site a better habitat to live in, feed and breed in. Birds are the centre piece of the RSPB but by sharing out the work to other bits of nature we can get the best possible environment for them all.

Common terns are flying around all over searching for fish you can hear them coming if you cannot see them straight away. The moorhens, swans and starlings are bringing up chicks in close contact with visitors which allow you to see them all from the hides around Saltholme. With summer taking us into July the wildlife is carrying on with the breeding season and everyone can witness the young new life at the reserve.
