Today the estate team have been working alongside the shore of the Saltholme Pools hide, if you came down to the hide today you will have seen us all working infront of the hide -

This morning the difference was that the bank along the waters’ edge was like a small cliff due to erosion from weather and animals over the past couple of years, the small cliff like appearance meant the birds disappear out of view as they go along the waters’ edge in search of food.

So as you can see above Brian, Nathan and Dean (as well as me and Linda) created a slope along the edge to increase visibility for the public as well as improving the habitat for wader birds to live in by providing a bank full of plant life for the years to come. The edge isn't as steep and hopefully now the sedge plants will stabalise the ground a bit more.

From the morning onwards a variety of birds stayed nearby watching our progress – the greenshank, goldeneyelittle grebe and lapwing all visible from the hide. Take a look at the Saltholme Pools hide when you next visit and you will have an improved view in front of the hide.
