First visit

Hi all,

Just a few pictures from my first visit to Rye Meads.

My first decent shot of a Dunnock.

A few shots of a Little Grebe (I just love these - they are so cute!).

Male and Female Blackcap

Orange Tip Butterfly - these flit about so quickly it's quite tricky to capture them. This one was trying to mate I think, so it was kind of distracted! :o)

Cormorant

Alas I didn't get to see any Kingfisher (other than a flash of blue as I walked along the river) even after sitting in the Kingfisher hide for about an hour. But that just gives me a good excuse to come back...not that I needed one!

So thanks for a lovely day out and thanks to all the staff for their hard work in maintaining such a fantastic place.

Cheers,

Gaz.

  • Hi Gaz,

    Great pictures! They are great!
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Rye Meads, thank you for your kind words, I will pass on your comments to the staff and volunteers!

The kingfishers are addictive aren't they! You should come back when the babies have hatched - keep an eye on here and I will let you know - it's always a good time to see kingfishers as they are really active trying to feed their hungry young!

Thank you for sharing your pictures!

  • Hi Louise,

Thanks for your kind comments on my pictures. Glad you like them and thanks for passing on my comments to the staff.

I've never actually seen a Kingfisher as they aren't local to me. I've always thought of them as quite elusive birds to stop which makes them aluring to me.

I did realise that my timing was probably a bit off as I was too late for them mating and too early for them to be feeding their young. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on here to see when they are active again and I'll certainly be coming back. Thanks again.

    Cheers,

    Gaz.
