What events would you like us to run?

Hi everyone,

I plan and run the events at the reserve, and I was wondering if there was anything you would like us to do? I would love some ideas and any suggestions..

Not just events, anything you think we could/ should do, suggest away! Or anything you want me to tell you here on the blog.

Thanks!

Lou :)

  • hi lou, havnt been on here for 3 weeks computer dead! if you are still doing it im really looking forward to your twilight tour as it will be my first outing, could you focus on specific birds? i went somewhere different than usual and saw totally different birds- jackdaws rooks lapwing turtle doves grey wagtails and greenshank- all in 1 day! so maybe pick an area where you are reasonably sure to find specific birds and go after them. or maybe a tour specifically for recognising bird calls would be very helpful, i spent 2 days chasing a call to find it was thrush! this is a very difficult and time consuming skill to learn without expert help and advice. paul

  • hi lou, me again, wot about an insect tour or a tree tour what their place is in nature eg what birds are attracted to what trees what insects they eat etc, my bird book will say bird X likes tree X but i dont know what tree X looks like! or a tour for finding otters mink or voles, or even a wild flower tour, i see some lovely flowers, dunno what they are! just a thought. paul

  • Hi Paul,

How are you? Did you enjoy the Twilight Tour? I did! It's great to get on the reserve after usual closing time!

I really like your ideas - I will have a chat with Christine about the bird calls, she is the expert! I like the idea about the insect tour as well, I will have to add that in! I'll have a think about your other ideas but I would love to add them in soon.

    Keep the ideas coming!

  • hi louise, im gutted i couldnt go to twilight tour because i had to work! what happened?

  • Oh no! You'll have to come next time!

We had a great walk, we saw quite a lot - the swifts were great, we had great views because they were flying so low. It's nice to see the terns, and all the wildfowl that were around. It was a lovely evening, so it was great to have a stroll round the reserve. We saw the badger latrine, the bee nest, and lots of amazing plants and birds.

You'll have to come along to another walk instead!
