Dawn Chorus Walk

Just like to say I enjoyed the Dawn Chorus walk despite the really awful weather. Thanks to our guides for managing to make it both informative and fun. Intend to do the Dusk Walk (grateful for date please as I forgot to note it in my soggy state on Sunday) and hope it'll be a bit warmer and drier.

  • Hello!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the walk! I have passed your comments onto Christine and Vicky. I love the Dawn Chorus walks (I couldn't come along to this one)! Christine is great at the bird calls so I always learn alot when I go out with her! The Twilight Tour is on Saturday 19 June, 7-9 pm.

  • Thanks Lousie - I will try and get along. I'm pleased it doesn't clash with an England game in the World Cup but perhaps you planned that!!!

  • Its a good walk so come along if you can! :) I can't say I planned it like that - it's a happy fluke!

  • Saturdays are not good days for me but if it did clash with the World Cup then I would probably make the effort as there wouldn't be too many people about!

    From a Rugby fan!

  • Hi Paul!

Hows the birdwatching going? Welcome to the forum! I hope you are enjoying it!

You are very welcome to come along to the Twilight Tour, everyone is welcome! The volunteer who takes the walk knows a lot, she is very good at spotting birds and their calls! The Twilight Tour is on Saturday 19 June 7-9 pm. The cost is £1 for RSPB and RSPB Wildlife Explorer members and £3.50 for non-members. We will meet at the visitor centre.

    I hope that helps!

  • hi louise forgot to say the birdwatching is going great thanx! being so new to it i see something new nearly every time i go out! even simple things like the lovely colour a female blackbird or a magpie is its really opened my eyes to a whole new world, im actually a bit disappointed if i dont see or hear something new!

  • Hi Paul,

I've responded to you Twilight Tour thread as well. The visitor centre is down Rye Road in Hoddesdon, the postcode is SG12 8JS (although this post code doesn't work for satnav, if you would like a satnav suitable code let me know.) There is instructions on how to get to Rye Meads on the RSPB website: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/r/ryemeads/directions.aspx

There is a car park and we'll meet at the visitor centre (its blue and yellow) which is right next to the car park.

Sounds like the birdwatching is going well! It is suprising what you see when you start looking! Magpie's are lovely aren't they, the colours when the sun shines on the feathers! I think female blackbirds are often overlooked, but they are fab, lovely camoflage! There is always something new to see, even if its a  bird or its behaviour - I love going on these type of walks with Christine (the volunteer who leads it), I always learn or see something different!

    Lou
