Sightings for 1st and 2nd March.

Quite good numbers of visitors at the weekend aided by the nicer weather.
We had quite a good species list for the first two days of the month, all in all a fairly respectable 50 species! We were stuck at about 46 then at last knockings a young lad came through and helped us reach the 50 mark. Well done to him! (…and not well done to us who should have remembered a few names!). The makings of a future expert?
Signs of spring are continuing with the Blue Tit spring call being heard, the makings of a Blackcap song, Reed Bunting song and some willow catkins just opening showing their lovely yellow colour.
The Kingfishers still on show around the nesting bank by the Kingfisher Hide. They have both seen going into the bank on and off. If you look at the central band of sand they’re using a hole towards the left hand edge.
Above that on the pylon, kestrels have been seen investigating both nest boxes.
Some other highlights were Red Kite, Buzzard, 10+ Yellowhammers seen in shrubs either side of the main path just before roosting, 140 Gadwall, 6 Grey Wagtail, 10 Common Snipe, a Song Thrush singing, 10 Pochard, 4 Shelduck, Chiffchaff and Redwing.
