What a day on the reserve A slightly wet start, taking part in the migration watch, managed to see meadow pipit, redwings and more - great being able to learn to identify different birds in the air. + a kestrel sitting on the pylon in the car park Also members of the ringing group showed us some ducks including teal being ringed, lovely to see close up decided to take a walk round to a couple of hides to see what was about - good decision Draper Hide Shoveler - Teal - Gadwall Black headed gull - stock dove snipe - little grebe - Cormorant pochard - Short eared owl, lovely views , saw at around 10.45 still in same place when i left at 2pm Tern Hide 100+ snipe - Lapwing Gadwall - Shoveler - Teal Swan - Black headed gull - Lesser black backed gull little grebe - coot - moorhen pair of grey wagtails Water Rail Pintail as we were watching all the birds on the lagoon flew up we thought it might be the owl on the move but as we looked up a red kite was flying over the hide, we followed it as it circled round over the reedbed by the river for a few minutes getting some great views. Trails Large mixed flocks of long tailed tits - blue tits - great tits Robin - Dunnock- chaffinch - greenfinch - starling cettis warbler heard amazing amount to see even though the weather not the best

What a fantastic day. And the Short-eared owl is still thrilling visitors!
