Lots of ducklings and young coots on the Draper and Tern lagoons and also at the Draper scrape.
DRAPER
There were two Green Sandpipers in the morning but by late afternoon the number had climbed to eight. Three juvenile Common Terns being fed by parents.
TERN HIDE
There were families of Tufted Ducks, Gadwall, Pochard, Moorhen, Coot and Mallard.
On my return to the hide in the afternoon, the lone observer there drew my attention to something in the water which he thought was a drowning raptor which he had seen being attacked by nearby Coots and ducks. I saw a head come out of the water and some feeble attempts to lift itself before it appeared to succumb.
GADWALL
Lots of young Black-headed Gulls on the rafts plus a few adult Common Terns.
KINGFISHER
The adults, mostly the male while I was watching, were bringing fish every 15-20 minutes. The fish that I saw were all quite large, the sort of size that an adult Kingfisher would eat. A Kestrel perched on the upper nestbox on the pylon and it was possibly one of the juveniles.
WET MEADOW
Simon, one of the other guides today, saw the female Marsh Harrier not far from the Lapwing Hide. No sign of the recent Grasshopper Warbler.
