The weather has been interesting this weekend, but we have seen quite a lot of wildlife...

An osprey flew over on Saturday afternoon, lots of kestrel, sparrowhawk, marsh harrier, peregrine, barn owl (in the roosting box in the woodland), and hobby sightings too.

An easterly, rain and a rising tide brought arctic and common tern and four great skuas along the Thames on Sunday.

There were quite a few waders around - the highlight was probably the pectoral sandpiper (seen on the Tringa Pool at the end of the Northern Trail) on Sunday. Other waders included ruff, redshank, dunlin, black tailed godwits, curlew, avocet, and water rail.

The waterfowl sightings included teal, pintail, shoveler, gadwall, shelduck, and greylag.

Swallow, sand martin, and house martin are still being seen as well - keep your eyes to the skies!

Bearded tit, siskin, yellow wagtail, meadow pipit, stonechat, cettis warbler and chiffchaff have been seen around the reserve as well.

At reception we can tell you the latest sightings and show you where the locations are on the reserve - so do ask us what has been seen!

This is the juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper that was seen today (Sunday)... picture by Andy Tweed:
