Ravens are early breeders and it will not be too long before 'our' pair of these goose sized monster corvids start a new family on their breeding territory a few miles away. I would like to think that as they have become so accustomed to the marsh and the bounty that it holds that they will continue to now visit on a near daily basis throughout the year. However, it may be that these urbanised crows will stay closer to base until the next batch of these awe inspiring birds are on the wing... we shall have to wait and see.

Thanks to Bob Cooper for these great shots from last Thursday.  Seeing these nearly everyday has been one of the highlights since my return from Shetland in October... long may it continue...

  • My fingers are crossed that you continue to see these magnificent birds, Howard - I would love to see them have many years of successful breeding, which will hopefully mean they spread all the way up the coast to my part of the world.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
