Did you know more than 6.3 million adults (45% of adults) aged 40 to 60 do not complete 10 minutes of continuous brisk walking per month (Public Health England)?

Walking at Rainham is an easy way to get more active, lose weight and become healthier - next time you are here walk briskly for 10 minutes of your walk (one way to tell if you're walking briskly is if you can still talk but can't sing the words to a song).

Walking briskly can help build stamina, burn excess calories and make the heart healthier. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards the recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise. A regular 10 minute brisk walk can boost energy, clear your head and lift your mood. It can help people with lower back pain and those at risk of high blood pressure. It’s also seriously good for your long-term health – it can reduce your risk of serious illnesses like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Being outdoors is great for reducing anxiety and depression too.

If you are walking on the reserve, log your steps and help us with our latest challenge in The Step Series: the black-tailed godwit.
