Was not quite expecting to be in work today but was grateful of an early start to witness blue skies and the first rays of dawn with hundreds of windblown Woodpigeons moving south on a broad from several miles wide. Nothing compared to the 14,000 over Barnes WWT during the week but still the first taste of autumnal pipgeon movement that we have witnessed this season.

Those blue skies were not destined to last long and the clouds brewing over the South Downs are huge and the tops are alread ybeing blown off into pointy anvil shapes so I reckon that we may get some rain before too long or at the very least the wind strength will increase.

A quick look around revealed a couple of nice Stonechats by the Purfleet Hide and a young Grey Heron using the top of the Marshland Discovery Zone as a lookout for the pool below.

A couple of small groups of Jackdaws zoomed over the centre from the estate ' jacking' as they went and the Wigeon on Purfleet are in fine voice this morning.

Let's see what the rest of the day holds in store?
