As promised.....The last two airworthy Lancaster bombers about to disappear from view as they flew east down river yesterday....

(Jerry Hoare)

There were over 7,000 Lancasters produced between 1941 and 1946 but now there are only two remaining.

One, nicknamed Thumper, is maintained by the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the other, Vera, by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

The two planes made aviation history on Thursday when they flew together above Eastbourne for their first public display as a pair.

Both are back at Biggin Hill today so I am hopeful of another flypast.....

8pm update..... no joy today as it was too windy to take off but Sam Shippey was down at Eastbourne yesterday and got a bit closer than us.....
