Morning all... Just a quick plug for a very special talk this evening in Hornchurch... For those of us of a certain age, Peter Holden, as the man in charge of the YOC, was the figurehead of what we aspired to be as budding Young Ornithologists, And so here I sit 37 years after I first became a member, typing a piece to enthuse you to go and listen to Peter still singing the virtues of everything the RSPB gives to the wildlife of this country. If the weather holds I will try and escape from a still snowy north Kent to get there myself.

The RSPB’s Natural Secrets
Tonight Peter Holden presents an illustrated talk entitled ‘The RSPB’s Natural Secrets’; It is not only birds that benefit from the RSPB’s works. In this illustrated talk we look at the many other forms of wildlife that can be found on and around our nature reserves – from rare hoverflies to magnificent Red Deer and from the Angel’s Wings Fungus to the Scottish Primrose. Some are common if you know where to look, but others are rare and depend on the RSPB for their future in the UK. With over 13,000 species of wildlife found on our reserves, no visit should ever be dull – even when the birds don’t show.
