Over the last two years I have struggled to connect with Spoonbill on the reserve and 2017 seemed to be going the same way with the dipping of a single and a trio during the spring.

However things have turned around and the wonderfully accommodating juvenile at the moment became my eighth this autumn.  It arrived on Monday and stayed around till today for me to catch up with and Tony O'Brien and I spent a great half an hour with it this afternoon during my lunchbreak. I was even awake for most of that time and had a really good close fly by too.

It was a pity that the light was rather poor but the views were superb!
