Strangely enough there was not a lot of time for blogging over the weekend so here is a little roundup of the incredibly successful Insect Afternoon walk on Saturday when temperatures were not far of 30c. Bit too warm for most critters but we persevered and everyone had a great time. Annie, Chris and I managed to keep a good crowd entertained with some good hoverflies, spiders, caterpillars and a few bugs while crickets chirped but kept hidden and all the usual Hawkers were doing just that.

Sam and his amazing mini vacuum cleaner bug sucker gun!  We all wanted one and it actually worked!!!!  Cool.... we are all big kids at heart.

Araneus diadematus - the Garden Orb Weaver. Absolutely everywhere at the moment (me)

and the scarcer, bigger and heavier but equally impressive Araneus quadratus - the Four Spot Orb Weaver (by me)

Pete Mitchelmore took this astonishing picture of the head of a Migrant Hawker... one of many on the walk. A Blue eyed Hawker was also seen again on Saturday.
