Yesterday it was 'SPPPOOOONNNNBIIILLLLLL!!' and so today we went one better with a superb juvenile Osprey that dropped into Aveley Pool and spent 20 minutes not only circling around and hovering but she even made a concerted effort to catch a fish with a good splash dive into Aveley Pool.
Nearly all of us saw her from the visitors centre but John Humble was in the Butts hide and got these superb shots...
She has no rings so who knows whether she is a British or European bird...
Look at those claws!
This was by far the best Osprey experience I have ever had here.... wow... what a bird and on it's first journey south across Europe towards the Med and Africa beyond...

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
