You will have probably noticed that we have diverted a short section of the path near the dragonfly pool area. This is a permanent new route. It means we can remove nearly 30m of wooden boardwalk from the circuit. We have over a mile of wooden boardwalk around the reserve and the maintenance of this structure takes up a lot of time, resources and cost. The work party have done a great job over the last couple of years replacing some large sections of the timber surface with the new recycled plastic planking, and this is looking great and will last much longer than timber and with little maintenance required – but this material is expensive.

So where we can, we are looking for opportunities to reduce the total length of wooden boardwalk that we have – a gravel path is much easier to look after. We have already removed a lengthy section of wooden boardwalk and replaced it with a gravel path in the woodland, and the new route at the dragonfly pool is the next phase of this plan.

In due course, we will try and manage the reed in this area, so that there is still a view into this dragonfly pool area from the new path.

Thank-you to the wardening team and the work party for getting this new section of path prepared and delivered.
