Keeping a wetland reserve wet during these really hot conditions can sometimes be very tricky. Currently large parts of the marshes are now very dry, there just isn't the water in the system to allow it to be moved around.
But sometimes it can be very easy, like the location in the photo below - pull out a 'plug', let water flow from one area to another, put the plug back in, and suddenly we have two wet areas not just one - a nice new home for dragonflies and hopefully some passage waders.
Recent bird highlights have included lots of gadwall, yellow wagtails, spoonbill, cattle egret and spotted flycatcher.
