The Ragwort is suddenly blooming across the reserve and as usual we have to remove it from those areas where the cattle feed as it is poisonous to them.

And before you ask, yes we know that it is a vital foodpalnt for the black and yellow caterpillars of the Cinnabar moth but we leave plenty around the edges, outside the fence to allow us to keep a good population of this great day flying  moth....

Ragwort and friends (Emily Gibson)

So, to the task at hand......

On Friday 1st and Tuesday 5th August we are inviting you to come and help us clear Aveley Marsh of the yellow peril. Not only will you get the chance to help us do some vital and rewarding conservation work but, being inside the fence on Aveley marsh, you will get a completely different perspective on the reserve...

We are meeting in the car park at 0900 and finishing by 1300. No tools required but please wear closed in sensible footwear and a hat and bring some water. We will have enough gloves to go around but feel free to bring your own.

No need to commit to coming but if you are please can you email ben.newton@rspb.org.uk
