Hi everyone Robyn here,
So I have been very quiet about our cuckoo steps challenge. Mainly because we lost by quite a way sadly... Victor (our BTO tracked cuckoo) reached the UK by around the 20th April and we are still stepping our way back from Central Africa to Rainham Marshes. Good news! We are around 2.5 million steps off our target which means since the start of the challenge in late February our visitors have walked over an incredible 11 million steps!!
We have done an amazing job so far, and now we are giving you the challenge to see if we can reach Rainham Marshes by the end of July!
Cuckoos were still being seen/heard on the reserve two days ago so there are still a couple around but lets see if we can get to the UK before they all leave. To put into perspective, we have walked across the Sahara from the Central African Republic and have just made it into Europe into Alicante in Spain!
How much longer do you think it will take us to reach Rainham Marshes? Let's get going!

Did you know? We’ve lost over half the number of cuckoos in the UK over the last 20 years. Since 2011 BTO have been satellite-tracking Cuckoos to find out why.
