Ok, here we go then... first post on the Rainham Marshes blog. It is a glorious morning with blue skies and, unlike yesterday, not a breath of wind.

Yesterday saw singing Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps in the woodland and two pair of Little Ringed Plovers are already looking quite at home on the wonderfully wet scrapes. Eight dapper Wheatears hopped around the anthill fields. A couple of Sand Martins and a Swallow headed east and Lapwings are displaying all over the site.

So far today six Corn Buntings were feeding along the west end of the river wall which bodes well for potential breeding and the warm air has already prompted the Marsh Frogs to start croaking. Skylarks and Meadow Pipits are well in song and several Little Egrets are waggling their yellow toes in the pools just outside the centre.
