For the first time in weeks and weeks we had a calm, still, mild evening with ripple free mill pond waters, silent reedbeds bar the birds and a fantastic sunset and preceding skies. Peregrine and Marsh Harrier performed to the guided group while us in the Centre counted 56 Yellow-legged Gulls in the perfect light along the Thames foreshore and had two Green Sandpipers calling from the Purfleet Scrape. As predicted it also became out first Glow-worm evening of the year with 11 lit up females between the centre and the cordite. Several were even on the exit ramp and we watched the winged males battling to see who would mate with the shining females.  A real pleasure.

Mark Hart took this cool shot of one of a mating 'heap'... can hardly call it a frenzy!
