Now, I love nature in all it myriad of forms from birds, flowers, spiders and insects of all sorts. However when a small denizen of the wildlife garden chose this morning to make a new home in my inner ear I was not overly amused.

I felt 'it' crawl inside and then realise that I was not some exotic flower (despite my 'interesting' Hibiscus covered red shirt today) and try to turn round and get out. To say that this was not a very comfortable experience is an understatement. I could feel it buzzing and scrabbling around and it felt like it was the size of a hippo with Doc Martins on.

Me and my offending (or possible offensive) shirt, post ear infestation!

I tried not panic and sought the medical expertise of Nurses Jackson and Doyle. After three attempts of filling my ear with sterile water to flush the beastie out it eventually decided that the inside of my head was not as desirable a residence as it once thought (too crowded!) and started to emerge.

I could see the girl’s faces and the pure horror on them as a quarter of an inch long ground beetle emerged coughing and spluttering was a sight to see.

Needlesstosay we rescued the poor little traumatified beetle and released it back into the garden so that it could find more appropriate accommodation.
