Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give you a heads-up about some work tomorrow over at the target pools.

We are going to have some contractors over there tomorrow, removing some fencing (shows on the map as a blue circle) so there may be some disturbance on the Target Pools . The Target Pools can be seen from the Shooting Butts hide, the viewing platform near the toilets, and the path that runs along there.

It's very exciting actually - it's the start of a project to install an anti-predator fence.

You may remember back in autumn/ winter 2014 there were some habitat works to create a series of new shallow scrapes and drains across the marsh that were designed to enhance the marsh for wildlife.

A fabulous feature created in 2014 on Wennington

Since we installed an anti-predator fence on Aveley Marsh (the main section of the reserve that you walk round on our 2.4 mile circular walk), to deter foxes and to provide a safe nesting habitat for ground nesting birds such as lapwing and redshank, we've had all time records of nesting and fledging lapwings!

Now we're got such lovely water features we are going to install an anti-predator fence which should keep all the habitat safe for all the wildlife, and (fingers crossed) greatly enhance the number of breeding waders.

The fence will be installed on Wennington Marsh (we'll let you know as there maybe some areas of disturbance when we're putting up the fence) - roughly shown on this picture by the purple line.

The red dotted line is the circular walk around the main section of the reserve.

It's all good stuff!
