Whilst walking the trails with the Kids Birdwatching Club this morning we did quite well and managed to find a good selection of birds.  The Barn Owl at long last gave itself up for me and snoozed in the front of its box for all to see while Cetti's Warblers sang and called from the reeds. The Lapwing and Golden Plover flocks were spooky all day and were joined by several hundred Dunlin over the high tide again. Fourteen Ringed Plover and ten Redshank were also seen on the marsh but the Peregrine only gave a brief view and it was a female Sparrowhawk that was causing most of the trouble today.

By the Butts Hide we found quite a few smashed snails clustered around a small stone, sure evidence that a Song Thrush had been out hunting for escargot before thrashing them to death on its chosen small rock....
