The clumps of Echinops (Globe Thistle) are just coming into bloom around the wildlife garden and are a magnetic draw to almost any insect that can fly or navigate its way to these nectar filled spiky balls of delight. Today there were various bees and butterflies in attendance as well as various wasps and hoverflies....

However, Lawrence Rogers got some shots of the best thing today with a huge Queen Median Waspthat had stopped for a refuel and was taken on by a stroppy worker Wasp with suicidal tendencies....

I have to admit that I thought it was a Hornet but was happy to be corrected.....  that's how we learn!
