Our Redshanks are starting to come back from their Icelandic breeding grounds (our breeding birds have already moved south) and about 120 are now commuting between feeding on the mud in Aveley Bay and on the Kent side between the Darenth Barrier and Erith Yacht Club and roosting on the now full Winter Pool on the reserve. Waiting at the end of the exit ramp from the centre can be quite productive to catch them as they whizz in and out.

Tony Orwell got a great shot the other day...

Somewhere amongst them will be our wintering Spotted Redshank and a lingering Greenshank may also be looking to hang around like the ones dow down on our South Essex Reserves at Vange and Bowers with others nearby at seen at high tide at EWT Two Tree Island.
