Les Harrison found a Red-breasted Goose on the reserve yesterday morning. Now, this would normally have been a show stopper but the yellow plastic ring on its left leg told a different story. This bird (and originally its partner) have been touring the south east for several years with sojourns at WWT Barnes, Abberton Reservoir and just last week, for some better class of shopping at Bluewater shopping centre... Where they originally escaped from is any ones guess!

Very smart all the same. Would just like one to fly up river on a misty October morning with a nice flock of Brent Geese. Now that would make me smile!

And a couple more images from Saturday with a fine adult Mediterranean Gull taken by Jonathan Wasse and a Water Rail scuttling across a gap by David Preston.
