Somehow managed both the Insect Afternoon and KBC walks today with only a few spots of rain! Tipped it down lunchtime from the warmth of the centre with a nice cuppa and sausage sani!
Anyway, Merganser was still around today but generally still pretty quiet. The Mute Swans still have seven cygnets and the Great Crested Grebes are still on the nest.
The KBC gets to grips with a fearsome caterpillar!
Some funky flies as well including...
Mesembrina merdiana
Anthomyia pluvialis
However star of the day was a huge Tree Bumble-bee, only the second for the reserve of this newly colonizing species
Bombus hypnorum
Lots of Swifts, House and Sand Martins around today... hopefully something new may arrive tomorrow!

The caterpillar is a drinker moth, they feed on coarse grass and reed. Their name comes from the fact that they like to dring dew drops from plants. They are a big beastie and probably only the cuckoo would tackle one.
