Saturday was a great day to be out on the reserve with a graceful juvenile male Hen Harrier (it was quite dinky by all accounts) seen out over firstly Wennington and then Purfleet Scrape in the afternoon. Such an effortless bird that is such trouble as an English breeding bird....

The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was seen again in the woodland and whilst watching this, Louis and Gosia Lawler were amazed to see a huge billed Hawfinch land in the top of the same tree with a flock of other finches before soon being on its way....

An amazing record but we had only been bigging it up the other day as a late October possible.  Two Bullfinches were also seen in the scrub and the Black Tern was also still around.

So far today it has been quiet although that cannot be said for the two Ravens that kronked over the car park as I pulled up this morning!
