Afternoon all.. sad news from the South Essex Wildlife Hospital. They did all they could for 1K our Kestrel but she lost her fight I'm afraid after being taken into care on Friday. Although she looked intact she actually had a coracoid fracture in her wing where it enters the body and had obviously then struggled to find enough prey to keep her body weight up.
She was born and ringed near Guildford in June and a movement nearly 40 miles for a Kestrel is quite unusual. Mortality in any bird is high but at least she spent most of her seven months entertaining us at RSPB Rainham Marshes. Obliging Kestrels have always been a Rainham thing and there will be others to take her place.

Thanks Howard for the update albeit sad, and thank you again for allowing Marianne and I to see such a beautiful bird, I know you all did what you could and all us nature lovers appreciate the work you all do.
Very sad to read this but the best care was given!
So sorry to hear this news. I'm pleased you managed to get her to somewhere she could be cared for - well done, all of you.
