The Western Swamp Hen might have failed to put in an appearance on Saturday 6th of August, but at least I was able to spend some time on the beach in the company of my three youngest children and four of these little beauties, all of whom enjoyed the waves and a little paddle (apart from my 10-week old daughter, who contentedly slept through it all).
