Last week we celebrated a very special birthday at Minsmere as one of our amazing volunteers reached the milestone of 100 years old.
Betty Nelson has been a familiar face here at Minsmere for many years, and welcomed many visitors to Minsmere during her time as a volunteer on our reception desk until 2012. Since then, Betty has taken on an equally important behind the scenes role in the visitor centre, helping us to sort and restock our very popular pin badges, and folding hundreds of events leaflets ready to display them for visitors.
For many years, Betty drove to Minsmere in her lovely old Mini, and more recently she has taken advantage of the Coastal Accessible Transport demand-responsive minibus to bring her to Minsmere each week.
Betty remained a valuable member of the Minsmere volunteer team until March this they when she, along with the rest of our volunteers, had to step down temporarily due to the current Covid-19 outbreak. We were very pleased to welcome Betty back to Minsmere last week to celebrate her birthday with cake and flowers. We hope that she will be able to return as a volunteer in the future, once the crisis is over. Until then, Betty, happy birthday from everyone at Minsmere.

Fantastic! Many happy returns, Betty - good to see you're still going strong.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
