As we have a bird list running for 2011, we thought it would a good idea to do the same with the moths found on the reserve.
We will be running the moth trap most nights and will post on here the new and interesting moths that we find in our trap. We will also record anything we find when we are out and about on the reserve.
If anyone does any moth trapping themselves, let us know what you are seeing in your area....
Hebrew character - the first moth this year!
The list begins with.....
1 - Hebrew character
2 - Common quaker
3 - Pine beauty
4 - Clouded drab
5 - Ruby tiger (found at tower pool hide)
mmmm..very nice
6) Small Elephant Hawkmoth
7) Flame Shoulder
8) Poplar Hawkmoth
9 - Sandy carpet
10 - Clouded-bordered brindle
11 - Brimstone moth
I caught my first Brimstone Moth here in Lanarkshire last night too! How often are you putting the trap out? I only do it about once a week since it technically isn't part of my job... I'm very jealous of the hawkmoths though.
The trap goes out nearly every night...apart from in bad weather. We can also add elephant hawkmoth to the list now along with a good number of poplar hawkmoths!
