A very rare bird in the UK has been reported nesting at the Loch of Strathbeg in a news article on the RSPB website and that is the Little Gull and that is the worlds smallest Gull. I hope the pair of Little Gulls are successful in having young and fledging successfully.
Thanks Ian! We are very excited and hope they can stay safe until they fledge. We have a 24-hour watch on them just in case but they'll hatch shortly and then fingers crossed. Many of their common tern neighbours already have chicks and we are very happy about that too as four years ago we had no chicks. We'll try to provide updates on the blog and through Facebook and Twitter as things progress.

Just to mention that the RSPB have just mentioned in a news article on the RSPB website that the pair of Little Gulls nesting at the Loch of Strathbeg have given birth to 2 Little Gull chicks, the first time this has ever happened in the UK. Here's hoping they fledge successfully. Excellent news.
In reply to THOMO:
I've just heard on another bird forum, that the young of the pair of Little Gulls have fledged. Which is fantastic news. I'm surprised nothing's been mentioned in any blog from the Loch of Strathbeg on these forums.
Thanks for that great news Ian, just checked on Twitter & a guy has posted a link to an article in today's Frazerburgh Herald highlighting this success!

Sorry we haven't been very good updating the blog here. We did a blog for Scottish Nature Notes (www.rspb.org.uk/.../little-gulls-at-rspb-scotland-loch-of-strathbeg.aspx) when we first confirmed nesting and then have been updating our Facebook page and twitter accounts with the news but we should have put more on here. I will pop a summary up along with some photos now.
