Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Hello again everyone one.

HilaryH - am aghast to hear!  So many positive thoughts !

Tiger  finally found your link to APOD for which many thanks. Stunning !!!!!!!!!!!!

Alan  but no success in finding Hilton Head and the Osprey nest. Please could you help me? Great pics -  thank you so much.

  • Good afternoon all and I have just caught up with everything.  Have not been on since Saturday morning when I had to give up and go to bed as I was feeling just dreadful.  Stayed in bed all day Sunday and this morning have been to the doctor who says I have a chest infection.  Now on antibiotics so that should get rid of it hopefully.  OH has been a treasure doing the bird thing for me, washing and getting his own meals.  He is a bit of a romantic and had booked a table at our favourite Italian restuarant which sadly had to be cancelled as I am off my food completely.  A dozen red roses turned up on Sunday morning as well.  Have to say he is one in a million.

Want to say thanks to all for all the news and pics, always a pleasure to read and look through the posts.  Alan who keeps us up to date with just about everything and how lucky you were auntie to see an owl so close up.  I stayed on a farm with a friend last October and although we could hear the owls at night we could never catch sight or them.  Well done to Tweed as well, what a clever dog.

I loved the comment about the singing hedge.  My sparrows are just the same in the hedge at the top of my garden and what a lovely sound it is.  OH noticed a sparrow picking  feathers up from the lawn and fly away with them so we are guessing that Spring is definitely in the air as I had noticed that there is a lot of pairing up going on now.

It is a dull damp day here but a bit warmer thank heavens but it does not look very good for the rest of the week with wind and rain forecast.

Sory I haven't replied individually to everyone but with a head as muzzy as mine I would not remember who wrote what at the moment.  Maybe tomorrow I will be a bit more with it.

Have a good afternoon/evening and day all.

Now looking forward to our weekly update to see what Rothes has been up to in the past week.

  • Morning all: Awake early here, but will probably grab another hour's kip before I start the day. Thanks for whale wishes. They saw four northbound adults yesterday; eleven in the last week, so we'll all be really focused today.

Alan: Do worry about blathering on about warm temps here when you're all suffering through a miserable winter. Not sure if it's any consolation that you get four real seasons. Regardless, I'll bundle some up sunshhine and send it your way. Oh, and no, Daz and Persil not big here; but Tide and Gain are; maybe the ospreys use a special osprey shampoo with brighteners?

Hallo Diane: Good to see you. Don't like cities either, unless, of course, we're talking Paris, which I could visit anytime.  Regarding police entering homes to warn homeowners, the UK also has an enormous number of  video surveillance cameras, which would get the American Civil Liberties Union totally up in arms (and the folks at the other end of the spectrum too). I think there's more of a "if you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't worry about it" attitude in the UK. The other thing that struck me - some years back now - was when DNA was used for the first time in a murder case - it was in the UK and an entire village (town?) volunteered to have their DNA checked as a way to find the killer who, from what I recall, was the one person who tried to avoid the test. I could never imagine anything like that happening here, what with the obsession (not only with guns) but also the rights of the individual. As you say, different cultures.

dibnlib: Don't get "Shetland Diaries" but do get Orcas out in the channel (haven't seen any).

Lindybird: Popular new dessert here is chocolate cake with liquid chocolate center (you have to warm it up). Daren't buy any, but it's also wonderful with ice cream. Yum!  I'll be tuning in to the Oscars, Haven't seen CF's new film, but it's had very good reviews. Assume the typecasting bit originated with the Bridget Jones movies?  I love ginger cake, with ice/whipped cream, but haven't had it for eons. Thanks for the recipe.

OG: Hope the invasion went well - but did I miss something? What was the occasion?

Back to nap for an hour. Take care all.

  • Margobird: Sorry you have been so unwell. There seems to have been a lot of chest infections this winter. Lady P's  brother has had one recently.

Weather is very cold today and it has just started snowing. Glad Hamish has had his walk.

  • Alan     Oh, thank you so much for all the links

  • Thanks Alan I think it must be all the cold and wet weather we have this winter.  Sorry you have snow again but as you say good that Hamish has had his walk.  You help me to keep me going when you post all your links and capture shots, always make smile.

  • 2 ospreys on the Hilton Head nest right now.

  • Afternoon everyone - it was beautiful here earlier - I walked to post a letter and the sun felt quite warm - but now it is drizzling.

Margobird - so sorry you have a chest infection - I hope the antibiotics clear it up quickly

I checked the Valmont GHO nest earlier and there are now 2 eggs - poor Mrs GHO was sitting in the snow yesterday.

Have enjoyed everyone else's chat/links/pics etc looking forward to the next update from LG - perhaps later today.

    Take care all

  • Afternoon all and thanks for all the pics and links and the most enjoyable chat. Weather here bright one minute and then pouring with rain the next.  Lindybird:  will have to try your ginger pudding recipe as it seems very easy.  Visited Muddy Boots farm shop on Saturday and got some of their scrumptious tablet but trying to only have two squares each day . Patriciat hope your sisters op goes well, when I was in getting an angiplasty done there was a old gent of 86 in getting a new pacemaker fitted and he said that this was his third one but he didn't think he would need another one.  On Saturday also visited the deer park which is near Cupar I had SIL and her sister with me and as there is a clothes shop at the park they managed to get some things we then went to the cafe which does home baking very nice. Hope to be in Forres at end of March so hope that ospreys might return early and will be able to go to LG even tho' centre won't be open.

    hope everyone keeps well
