• Don't judge a book by it's cover.  UR could have turned out to be a nightmare in other ways!

  • with all these three year old around the summer of 2010 must have been a good nourishing breeding season

  • Facebook update:

19:30 Well, we've had some crazy days here at Dyfi Osprey Project, but today takes some beating.

Neither Blue FS nor White UR have been seen since Seren reappeared after her three day absence. We did see Blue FS fly away with no apparent problems, so we assume that she was not injured after her tussle with Seren.

We've later learnt that White UR was one of two chicks ringed at a nest in the Ythan valley in Aberdeenshire on 10 July 2010 - so another three year old. Let's hope that both make it back to Scotland safely.

So what can we make of all this? Seren seems much more settled on the nest than she did last week. Maybe the sight of another female on the nest was her cue that she had better stay now - just like what happened to Nora two years ago. Seren was very aggressive on the nest this morning but remember, successful breeders need this aggressive behaviour. It could be a goshawk after a chick next time. Nora was the same.

Many three and four year old non-breeding ospreys are passing through right now - the amazing drama of 2013 continues..

  • Wonder why Seren is acting like this with Monty now though? I thought booting out Blue FS meant that she was interested in playing happy families.

  • Stroppy young madam - maybe a lot of us were like that once upon a time! :)

  • Thanks Sheryl. I presume they think that Seren will just start accepting Monty. Anyhow, no matter what we say, the birds will make the final decision :-))

  • Who is on the nest perch Seren?

I wonder that too Chloe. You would think that having had to fight for both nest and partner, she would show more interest in bonding with them now. Poor Monty, condemned to fish for frigid freeloading females... am still kind of hoping 12(10) puts in an appearance

  • With all the drama so far at Dyfi, this thread is getting huge. Anyone else think we maybe need to start a new one for May?

[/quote]I agree as no sign of bonding or interest in the nest and also kind of hoping 00 (09) puts an appearnce in soon also.

Maybe tomorrow another day and see a difference :)
