Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 24 2010

Hi everyone. Happy Sunday!  As usual, check out the last few entries of the previous week's chat to find out who left a plant at the supermarket checkout counter and ate a bag of chocolate donuts for lunch.

Brought Oro for home visit today; was lovely and sunny and daughter sat in the garden feeding him treats. He had a little snooze and then while my daughter took a nap Oro and I went to the beach and walked along the grassy area behind the sand for about a mile or so. (No trash cans to crash into!)  Marvellous afternoon with brisk breeze and big surf, but now they're forecasting more rain for Monday through Wednesday!

Forgot to put in a link to Birdguides photo of the year 2009 competition:

    http://www.birdguides.com/webzine/article.asp?a=1920

Thanks for this link Alan there are also links to some of the photographers web sites so more interesting things to look at.

Don't know if youare watching Lily at the moment but the cub is being really noisy, I am guessing it is hungry.

  • DjoanS sorry you have snow again but have been watching the weather forecast and it looks as though all of us are in for a very cold weekend and snow could turn up anywhere.  Have just been out to top the bird food out and it has got a lot colder here and the birds must know as they are going mad for food in my garden.  We have a pair of magpies visiting regularly and they are partial to grated cheese once they have dunked in the bird bath.  Keep warm and enjoy the rest of the day.

  • Morning all:  Thanks Alan for the link to the competition photos. Some really good shots. Had to laugh at the Puffin pix; such odd birds. They look like something out of an animaied Disney  movie. Love the eagle shot - very "dignified" - it's funny how some species seem to sense they're at the top of the pecking order and pose appropriately.

Off to start the day. Take care all..

  • Have a good day Annette I loved the puffin photo such great little birds.

  • I also loved the Puffin pics. I have only seen Puffins once and that was at Auchmithie when walking along the cliffs from Arbroath near Dundee.

  • Let's help our friends the BBCT help our friends the Bees

I thought some of you may be interested in this (rspb together with BBCT- bumble bees) and  would like to vote.

  • Evening all (6.25pm here). Just a quick pit-stop here before night shift.

Thanks BrendaH for the link, vote casted. Thanks to Alan for that picture link and that link for the Malta petition, signed it (mayby will sign @workaddres in my cat`s name)

Thanks to all as always funny, interesting, educational etc chat and links, see you tomorrow, take care and stay safe

  • Evening all.

Annette - Cassio College was on the main road as far as I remember, A41, and that is probably called Hempstead Road (the main road to Hemel Hempstead, where I went to school) so it could have been called the Technical College.  I know technical colleges had name/image changes.

Alan - have signed the petition.

BrendaH - have voted for bees (59% of the vote, way above the others)

DjoanS - perhaps Hopalong had spent some time in hospital and had the leg mended ;))

  • Friday evening here.  Sunny but cold day and all the varied birds eating like crazy.  Either A: they think the snow will come down from the north or B: they are filling up today so I can’t count them for the Big Garden Bird Watch over the weekend (I suspect B if past years are any indication!).  Had a quiet but busy day – got to the bottom of the ironing pile (yeeah-hah!)  and then did some filing and loads of paper shredding!

Heron Paul – hope you too saw the big golden orb – it certainly won today’s bout!

AQ – love reading your SA history – more please!  I don’t think we ever had family members who emigrated (I don’t think they were any more adventurous than I am!).

Diane – not only a plumber, but also an adventurer facing the Wild Things for a wrench – I do admire your skills and bravery!

Caerann – pronunciation of Dreich is “Dreek” – but the “d” and the “k” are both much softer sounds than that!

Annette – hope hamster got safely delivered, that daughter is still doing well (I apologise for the order of those two!) and that you enjoyed breakfast out!

Tiger – re accents – when we moved north to Lancashire, folk there said I retained a southern accent, while friends and family down south said I had a Lancashire accent!  I think I pick accents up where I go, and always feel bad on holiday in case the locals think I am mimicking them!

DjoanS – sorry to read about snow – and poor you getting caught out in it.  Bet Dibnlib has plenty where she is!  We have had a number of “Hopalongs” in the past, usually Blackbirds or Chaffinches, but they do seem to find mates.

Alan – sorry about power cut – was it weather related or human error?  Thanks for photo comp link.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • DjoanS We've got your snow now!  It seems to be just showers but is lying so tomorrow morning may be 'hairy' as we live at the top of a hill!

Thanks to all who have put links on here - I hope to have time to explore them all soon.
