This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
Oh Alan - That's not good news.

Awful news on Erika - - good they have someone to check it out.
Re the above. Can't find the original picture I enhanced but if you look at this Google Maps image, with a bit of imagination, you can make out the shape of a bird. The Richat structure is above the letters Ma of Mauritania, forming the eye. This is what someone saw as the spirit of Deshar swooping in to guide Nethy. Click to enlarge:

Sorry to hear about Erika.
Thank you Chloe - I see it - does indeed look like an Osprey!
Yes it does...amazing!

Here is the original idea here!

A strange illusion! My daughter Megan and I were reviewing Nethy’s progress on Google earth this evening after school, we usually each put placemarks on the map to see who guesses closest to Nethy’s next position. We had the map zoomed out so that Nethy’s current position was at the top right side of the window and the west coast of Africa was visible on the left. My daughter then pointed out to me that Deshar was in Mauritania showing his sister how to get to her destination. I paused for a second and asked her to clarify what she meant. “Just above the ‘M’ in Mauritania you can see his eye, he is looking towards the coast where his sister needs to get to, she is riding on his back!” I looked again, squinted a bit, and sure enough I could see exactly what she meant. In central Mauritania there is what appears to be an impact crater or volcano with a dark band running west to east, a white ‘head’ surrounds this and a white/brown swathe of land sweeps down into Mali, his belly and legs. The Mottled Sahara to the north east represents his back and wings. See if you can make it out! Although obviously a trick on the eye, a nice thought non the less.
Tiger Signature
Someone did point out that Deshar was not the best bird to choose to guide one out of trouble as Nethy seemed to be at the time.
Nevertheless Tiger a lovely thought especially after his horrendous trip and death that he was looking out for her. Its nice to believe in fairy tales at times! I googled it yesterday evening and it is an amazing structure. Anxiously awaiting news on Red 8T that he is thru the dreaded desert.
