This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
Ilmari from Finland : No change:
Has anyone got any figures on the mortality rate of satellite tracked osprey chicks compared to non satellite tracked. The believed figure is that 1 in 3 (non tracked)chicks survive and return to breed. Have we had that success rate with tracked birds?
It is very difficult to get mortality stats with satellite tracked chicks unless the remains are actually found because transmitters can and have failed while still attached to a live osprey. Also with such a small sample of tagged ospreys it is hard to draw any conclusions.
Updates from Roy Dennis on 2 juveniles:
Fiddich - Returned from a 10-day exploratory trip to Guinea, and arrived back at the southern end of Lac de Guiers on 7th Dec.
Aigan - Has also gone south, as far as the Senegal/Guinea Bissau border; latest position 14/12 in mangrove swamps on south side of R Casamance (not far from Red 8T).
No update on Fearna Alan?
Tempo - not so far, but Roy hasn't posted updates for the adults yet either.
Interesting to note that as BlueYD returned to the Senegal River he avoided the area that Ceulan was in :
Fearna update:
No change
December 21, 2012
Fearna remains ranging in the same area on south side of Senegal River
Beatrice update:
Back at the old haunts on River Guadiaro
Beatrice has spent last ten days in her old haunts on the Rover Guadiaro and tributary – not ranging very much at all.
Red8T update:
Red 8T remains living in exactly same area
Rothiemurchus update:
Rothiemurchus continues to live in exactly same area
Thanks for these updates Alan and all the others that you do, also thank you to all the other people who keep us updated with various sightings etc, and jsb for his hard work on keeping his spreadsheet up to date and keeping us so well informed. Id like to wish you ALL a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
Thanks Alan - I think that puts us pretty up to date with HFW as we had Aigan and Fiddich a few days back.
Wonder how old favourite Morven is getting on as nothing since September.
