This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
Since I started following the sat tracked ospreys in 2007/8, never did the Cape Verde Islands crop up, as far as I can recall. Then on the 27th August we get Bynack's rogue signals, then on the 19th September, Stan touches down there. What will be the next surprise this year?
Lad and Dad, sighted together somewhere? Cally overwintering in Seville? What else?

You are right there jsb - you just don't know or can even guess "what is going to happen next"

Does anyone know if Ospreys are regularly seen on the Cape Verde Islands? Perhaps Stan met another Osprey 'en route' who offered to show him a great place for overwintering!!
Best wishes

Noisette : As far as I am aware there are 80 or 90 pairs of ospreys on the Cape Verde islands. They do not migrate but are occasionally joined by stray migrating ospreys.
ESTLAT ospreys update and Erika:
"All the Ospreys left by now breeding grounds as well as Estonian Ilmar finally. Interesting is the long stop over of Latvian Ilze in Hungary, Hortobagy where she is already long time between two big fish farms. The (summer) mate of Ilze, Eriks most probably crossed the Mediterranean Sea and should be now in desert. But in desert there is no GSM coverage, so we need to wait for his data. Piret a female Osprey from Estonia returned to Nile Delta from Sudan-Egyptian border area"
Tweet from SWT:
"Blue YD still in Morocco heading towards the coast, travelled 452 km in a day and a half."
YD's route on 20th-21st
He's following the north face of the Atlas Mts, and spends the night at a reservoir, at about 950 metres.
Kawartha Lakes osprey 54706 stopping over just to the west of Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela:
Jan 2003 report of Scottish young osprey on CV Islands, they say 'found'? I am hoping they mean sighted, not found in the past tense. But this one took ages to get there compared to Stan and also the implication is that it travelled to the mainland first. Rather like the movement of Bynack's signals.
I wonder when we will hear some news of Stan? RD was on his way to Hong Kong last week.
