This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.

Once I realised that he has rested in the Canary Islands I knew he would be fine.

Looking at the line of his flight Tiger - I reckon he was lucky to get to land as he was heading south west. Hope he gets his sat nav corrected if he decides to move to east
Well done STAN! He flew over quite a bit of land before he stopped so I hope that means that he was not exhausted.
IMAGICAT
TIGER I had found the link to the paper by Luis Palmer, and was so excited about the news I emailed him to let him know!! He knows RD, and RD has been to Portugal. If Stan does indeed end up staying there (Roy does add in his report I wonder if he will stay there or fly back to Senegal) it might encourage a visit to Cape Verde at some point in the future!!

What an incredible young Osprey Stan is, was so relieved to read that he has made it to the Cape Verde Islands. Will be interesting to see what he does next, will he stay or will he go, whatever he decides to do I hope he finds plenty of fish and fattens himself up before making any more hair raising marathon flights again.

Scylla I too noted that he stopped just before he went out over the ocean again. As he was flying in the dark (going on the times given by Roy as resting at 20.00 and it gets dark there from 5pm?) I personally think he was a very lucky bird indeed to stop where he did. But hey for the time being we know he is on land and hope he stays put to build up. I just hope if he decides to move on that he gets coordinates fixed to east at least away from south west.
Sounds a beautiful place for Stan to have a spot of R&R, or indeed to settle for the rest of his life.
Do not relax folks. Stan may decide to fly south again! :)
I am absolutely amazed at STANs journey -
I wonder if Ospreys ever intended to go to Cape Verde or they ended up there because they went astray a little.
Do posters think he will stay put or get his bearings and fly to mainland continent Africa after a rest
TIGER - If he heads south again where will he go to ?????????
