This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
OMG !! I just can't get my head around that JSB. What chance for migrating Ospreys in the US. This is beyond horrendous.
Cirrus: Just in case you did not follow my logic, but you probably did. I thought of finding out how Beatrice's fish were in her Spanish river, with the heatwave. All I got was the fish deaths in US, no mention of Spain, which is what I was wondering about. (Just in case there was a misunderstanding.) That may have explained Beatrice's move away to the reservoir, up the coast.

Piret has now been on a stopover at the Dnieper river delta on the Black Sea for one week.
Hello JSB - Your thinking of Beatrice's movements in relation to what was happening in the US sounds good to me. I was trying to figure her out and did not think like you but moving up the coast to the reservoir makes sense in this possible situation. (I will add this to my notes).
The fortunes of mapping out the areas over previous years - she probably knew exactly where to go. Interesting what she will do.
Hello everyone
I wonder if Beatrice's sudden change of movement has something to do with the wildfires around Bedar and Estepona, which is about 20 miles west of Marbella?!
Does anyone know anything about this?
tina
Yes I see what you mean - I found this news article about the fires. Estepona lies between Beatrice's usual wintering spot on the Guadiaro and the reservoir above Marbella that she has moved to. This might explain why she did a detour over the sea to get there - perhaps she moved in order to get upwind of the fires. .
Interesting and seems a very likely explanation Thank you TINA and SUE
Does anyone know anything about this osprey:
"Just to let you know that I've just received the satellite mapping for our young osprey, Fearna. She's still staying close to the nest but as soon as her migration starts, we'll provide a link to follow her movements."
Alan: All I can see is your query on Facebook and this location.
Allt na Fearna which is located in the RD catchment area as it were.
EDIT: Maybe Northshots are the sponsors?
jsb: The original tweet was by Peter Cairns at Northshots retweeted by SWT ranger and staff. This is possibly one of the 4 birds that Roy Dennis has still to add to his website. So it seems we know of 2 now ie Stan and Fearna.
