This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.

Well Roy Dennis does not remember the bird being re-ringed. This webpage lay virtually forgotten for over ten years and then it suddenly became important.
In "Life of Ospreys" Roy Dennis not mention any ring for S18 which is the bird we now know as Blue XD
Interestingly on 3 March before any of this broke I wrote a piece about these birds

Of course, TIGER , you didn't mean the upside down Osprey in RD's hand :)
''There is a rather lovely picture of S06 on the right hand corner of page 97 of "Life of Ospreys" by Roy Dennis. As an aside there is a nice picture of how to catch an osprey using an owl decoy at the top of the same page.''
Yes, it is a lovely picture of her.
Sorry to butt in, I just want to say "Hi" to 58Willow as I always seems to miss you. I have to say the ring system seems so illogical and confusing at times. I went onto BTO to see if I could find an index of ringed birds in the UK but couldn't. Perhaps this information is confidential or maybe I was missing something on the site. But I take my hat off to those of you who investigate these birds and manage to find out who is who - thankyou, as I don't have much time online and it must take hours of research.
mims, have you checked out SueC's ringing data which is linked to our osprey data website? It is an excellent resource.
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
Thankyou ChloeB for the above link - brilliant, I didn't know about it. Which reminds me, I haven't checked out yours and Tiger's stats page for a while so shall do that too before I go:-)
Looking at Tiger's link to S18 and his hazardous spring migration taking him well out over the Atlantic highlights to me the dangers even for adult birds. That was some journey for him.

Ok rewritten it should read:
''There is a rather lovely picture of S06 on the bottom right hand corner of page 97 of "Life of Ospreys" by Roy Dennis. As an aside there is a nice picture of how to catch an osprey using an owl decoy at the top of the same page.''
I wrote that piece when I was wrestling with a very difficult problem and I was pleased that writing about the ospreys provided relaxation and resulted in a piece that I like as I hope other do too.
I had no idea that within weeks it would take on a whole new significance.

Yes S18 was incredibly lucky to survive his spring migration in 2001. Mind you S09 was never heard of again as far as I am aware.
To think that he is now a regular visitor to that pond in Aviemore!
Caledonia latest tracked points:
Thank you ALAN. Glad to see she's not frequenting dirty oily waters! Keep safe, Cally :-*
