Well Blue 44 is 98 days old today. That is older than most young ospreys are when they migrate. Mind you the longer he stays the better he will be prepared for his long journey.
Young Oswald certainly took his time about migrating last year.

Good Morning All, thanks for all your pics and updates, I see Lewis/Blue44 has had yet another large fish for his breakfast... the SWT blog don't seem too concerned about him not leaving yet, though I hope he's ok when he goes, all the other adults and last years young will be compeating for territory and food and this years young will have to try and fit in somewhere, which is my worry at this late time to go. It has been turning very cold here in Yorkshire the last few days and last night there was a frost... :(
Starling and Badgie we're so glad you liked the video, I Lol at the going into business with lotL ... I will have to ask for free entry next time we go for all the custom we put their way ... :) if we manage more videos we will put them on weekly chat through Autumn and Winter.
BFN :)

Interestingly it is now 42 days since Blue 44 fledged. Interestingly no Loch Garten bird in the last ten years has spent so long between fledging and migration.
Not sure what the stats would be for Loch of the Lowes birds.
I just logged on to the nest and saw a red squirrel cavorting on it - couldn't get my recorder going in time, but caught it in the tree behind the nest and then saw that it has a blackish tail with white tip. It is a red squirrel isn't it???
Once is disappears don't bother waiting, it doesn't come back but I have to go so no time to chop the end off.
IMAGICAT
I've just seen a Red squirrel run round the side of the nest and in the pine tree... must be collecting pine cones for winter... it's raining at Lowes now.
LoL SCYLLA ... I didn't see your post till now, the squirrel was so quick I couldn't take a pic but tried when it was in the tree but it wasn't clear so deleted it, I watched and waited for it to come back on the nest but the rain set in. I'll go and look at what you got on film. :)
Edit: That is brilliant Scylla, you captured a good bit if it. Thank you. :)

[/quote]Tiger Oswald has sprung to my mind also.
No rush as of yet and Oswald was a confident fisherman before he left :)
They will not be going anywhere today, the weather is atrocious.
