Well it has been one of those worrying days again. It started out fine with both Odin and EJ seemingly enjoying their reunion.
Then sometime during the morning it was noticed that EJ was no longer on the nest. This was not worrying to begin with but as the hours passed it certainly concerned the viewers on here.
The weather at Loch Garten has been generally foul today and has become even worse tonight with snow falling.
So is there a problem or not? Personally I do not think so as ospreys have been known to go walkies before (well maybe they flying equivalent of walkies whatever that is).
In 2005 EJ went AWOL for a whole nine days. It was thought that she was sulking because Henry had smashed her eggs.
I guess viewers will be tuning in at first light to see if she has returned.
Anyway I think it is a bit too early to panic!
Tiger Signature
ChloeB - possibly because she trusts Odin not to introduce another female opsprey?
We know that a female ferociously and repeatedly attacked EJ on the nest while Henry was around (2004). So no, I don't think this is the case.
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
I recognise Richard's "tetchy" tone in his post in the blog (copied by Tiger on the previous page) and I would say it's justified..........
Personally, I would think EJ's absence yesterday had more to do with sheltering from the horrible weather. In similar conditions in 2010, she was mostly "off camera" for a couple of days.
Maggie - I doubt that Odin is that trustworthy, if he was left to his own devices for too long and a female turned up - I'm sure EJ will be checking on him on a regular basis!

Oh thats an interesting snippet for me Chloe, I never knew that Odin had been around prior to 2009. Thanks.
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
LOL sorry, typo Mary :) Meant Henry of course. Thanks for spotting that, will amend :)
Pay attention Chloe *smack* :)
I am so pleased Richard has spoken!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
I am sure too, as Sue has mentioned. Just as EJ took up with blue XD in Odin's absence, Odin would do exactly the same in EJ's absence. When they are together they will watch their own backs as far as their partners go. They have to don't they?

I have (respectfully) suggested on Blog comment that important messages from Richard and team should be in a new Blog, not lost among discussion and speculation in the comments!
I, too, am glad Richard has delivered reassurance (and, perhaps, a gentle rap over the knuckles - things got a bit grumpy on here yesterday!) I'm sure if there is cause for concern Richard or one of his 'minions' will let us know. Positive thinking of heat required to melt the snow at LG from a distance!
