DAILY UPDATE (LG Nest) Tuesday, 3rd April 2012

Well it has been one of those worrying days again. It started out fine with both Odin and EJ seemingly enjoying their reunion.

Then sometime during the morning it was noticed that EJ was no longer on the nest. This was not worrying to begin with but as the hours passed it certainly concerned the viewers on here.

The weather at Loch Garten has been generally foul today and has become even worse tonight with snow falling.

So is there a problem or not? Personally I do not think so as ospreys have been known to go walkies before (well maybe they flying equivalent of walkies whatever that is).

In 2005 EJ went  AWOL for a whole nine days. It was thought that she was sulking because Henry had smashed her eggs.

I guess viewers will be tuning in at first light to see if she has returned.

Anyway I think it is a bit too early to panic!

  • Paul,  I remember that too  which is why I am not worried at this time. When the sun came out she  waded  in the snow a  bit and decided it was too cold and left.  When the weather  warms up and the rain and snow  ends if she still is MIA I will wonder where she went. But she still may be stressed out from Sunday's  events.  I will give it some time before I panic.

  • I remember that snowy season too - poor birds.

They either turned on the windshield wipers or a bunch of snow finally fell off the lens at LG, but it's building up again now.

  • On the other hand,  maybe it's turned to rain?

    EDIT: Nah, it's still snow.

  • Well at least we can see a little of the nest.  With the emphasis being on little.

Here's the scene from a few minutes ago.

  • I keep checking  the  web cam hoping to see something

I am like the person who is hungry for a snack and keeps checking in  the  refrigerator expecting something  different  in there LOL

  • Off to roost now.  Happy watching to all the night cam viewers.

    Night :-)

  • Barbara: That was a great summary for today - just the facts (such as they were).

My OH is watching the Kentucky vs. Kansas (his home state) basketball match. I'm going to do other stuff and keep half an eye on the nests (just in case something different shows up).

  • Thanks Annette . Compiling a list of every time they matted or ate is a "lot of work" for  the  person writing the summary.  I am not sure  knowing the exact time and  number of matings  is vital . We could just say they  matted numerous times and had "X" number of fish.

Then include some  important  and  interesting details. Such as chick developments or  Odin brought in another log and EJ threw it over the edge of the nest LOL

When  here is a  very important or funny video  direct  the readers to the page it is on. An Example of a video showing a newly hatched chick(s) for the first time , first time they walk upright, etc.

The people who want to know every  little detail will read all the pages on a thread. It was my understanding this summary is for those who  don't need to know every minor detail or frankly don't have time to read 30+ pages in a thread.

    Just my 2¢

  • Prospects for tomorrow don't look good . The snow is off the camera lens and  this is the sorry sight of the nest

  • I think you got it right Barbara. It'll probably be somewhat easier once our couples (whoever they may be) are organized and get into a routine.  Still can't see anything of the nest; wonder if daylight will improve the situation.
